The German film director Werner Herzog is the winner of the IAMF Grand Prize 2020. The award was announced at Trento Film Festival by the IAMF vice president Roberto De Martin.
Jabier Baraiazarra, the Director of BBK Mendi Film Bilbao-Bizkaia mountain film festival and the president of the International Alliance for Mountain Film, is proud of this well-deserved recognition of a great director with remarkable contributions to mountain cinema. Like Werner Herzog, he could not be present at the Italian event either because he followed the precautionary guidelines against covid-19.

From July 14 to August 1, the Urmuga expedition will traverse the Basque Country crossing the watershed. Music and mountaineering will merge together with the Et Incarnatus Orchestra and the Mendiak eta Herriak mountain guide agency. Urmuga is a journey that will take place from west to east from the Sierra de Garobel to the Hiru Erregeen Mahaia, traveling along the main mountains of the Basque Country, led by Felipe Uriarte, and steeped in music under the direction of Migel Zeberio, in various places along the route.

"Into the Light", by the Slovenian photographer Sandi Bertoncelj, is the official image of the BBK Mendi Film Bilbao-Bizkaia mountain film festival. He has won this award in the CVCEPHOTO Contest of the Club Vasco de Camping Elkartea, so it will be the base of all Mendi Film's illustrations.
The film Treeline directed by Jordan Manley wins the Grand Prize at the BBK Mendi Film Bilbao-Bizkaia 2019. Trees are the main axis of this work engraved in forests of British Columbia, Japan and Nevada. It's an invitation to interpret what the oldest trees have to teach us, illuminating the reciprocal bond between humanity and nature. A masterpiece.
Bilbao, 16th December 2019. BBK Mendi Film Bilbao-Bizkaia, the international mountain film festival, puts an end to its brilliant 12th edition. Over the last 10 days, 12,360 people attended the screenings, setting a new attendance record and reinforcing its continuous growth for the last eight editions. The organisers are very happy with these numbers, but they particularly appreciate the quality of the films and events.
Mountaineers Nives Meroi and Romano Benet have been the main honorees of the 12th edition. They were awarded the 2019 WOP-The Walk On Project Award at the event held in Bilbao on Saturday, December 14.

Lehendakari Iñigo Urkullu, the Basque Premier, today offered a reception, in Vitoria-Gasteiz, to Eduardo Martínez and Jabier Baraiazarra, president and director of the Mendi Film. The Minister of Culture and Linguistic Policy Bingen Zupiria has been the one who has guided the meeting.
BBK Mendi Film Bilbao-Bizkaia announces the programme of the 12th edition, which will be held from 6th to 15th of December.
It highlights the list of the 60 films that will be presented in the stages of the Sala BBK, Golem Alhondiga cinemas, and the Euskalduna auditorium.
The 12th edition of BBK Mendi Film Bilbao-Bizkaia begins to be presented in Bilbao, through the first photographic exhibitions in Metro Bilbao and Euskal Trenbide Sarea-ETS: Beneath the Ice by photographer Christian Pondella, and the selection of the 20 best pics of the international mountain photography contest CVCEPHOTO 2019.
The last sales phase offering ticket packs for BBK Mendi Film Bilbao-Bizkaia is open until 11th November, with discounts of up to 40% as opposed to the full-priced tickets on session days. This is a limited offer.
Tickets for the Opening Ceremony (6th Dec) are also available. The film opening the Official Selection 2019 will be OSTATNIA GÓRA (The Last Mountain), by director Dariusz Zaluski, about the Polish winter expedition to K2 in early 2018, starring Krzysztof Wielicki, Adam Bielecki and Denis Urubko.
