The main image of BBK Mendi Film Bilbao Bizkaia 2024 burns with “Fuego”

The 17th edition of the BBK Mendi Film Bilbao Bizkaia to be held from 6 to 15 December 2024 now has its official poster. It is titled Fuego, by the French photographer Jean-Baptiste Liautard, and it has been awarded the Mendi Film festal poster prize along with 700 euros in the international mountain activity photography contest CVCEPHOTO organised by the Club Vasco de Camping Elkartea, club of San Sebastian.

The Basque Country and Navarre mountain federations to receive the WOP Mendi Film 2024 award

Films, exhibitions, conferences, the Jury... This is what the 16th Mendi Film will be like!

In the 16th edition of BBK Mendi Film Bilbao Bizkaia, 57 films will be screened and there will be 3 exhibitions, 4 conferences. Edurne Pasaban will be presented with The WOP Mendi Film award. The IAMF Grand Prize winner, "K2 Touching the sky" by Eliza Kubarska will be screened, a masterclass will be given by the photographer Yhabril and a conference on the mountain film industry will be celebrated.

Presenting: HARRI, ORRI, ARkatz, the world's largest climbing topos exhibition inside BBK Mendi Film Bilbao Bizkaia basecamp

Bilbao, 24 November 2023. The presentation of the exhibition, HARRI, ORRI, ARkatz, took place today. The exhibition showcases illustrated works of climbing and mountain art & topos and was held at the site that the founders of Bilbao first settled, the Aztarnategia/Yacimiento museum. This is the largest exhibition of its type staged internationally, with contributions from authors from all over the world, and is the ideal setting for the book titled: EL ARTE EN EL CROQUIS DE ESCALADA / ART IN CLIMBING TOPOS.

This year’s Mendi Tour has been a roadshow of record-breaking proportions: 14,000 spectators in 53 venues

The Mendi Tour 2023 circuit, has once again reached all of Spain, starting from the Basque Country. Mountain cinema sessions have been screened in 53 towns and cities -last year there were 46-, attracting 14,000 spectators and a 25% increase on last season's figure.

The MENDI TOUR is on par with the best data with 10800 spectators in the first half of the season

Spectacular data and great atmosphere in the Mendi Tour circuit in 2023. In the winter-spring season, during the first half of the year, it has had 34 venues, with a total of 64 film sessions, and 10,800 spectators.

"X-Man" by Yhabril Moro is the image of BBK Mendi Film Bilbao Bizkaia 2023

The photograph "X-Man" is the main image of our edition this year, it has won the BBK Mendi Film Bilbao Bizkaia 2023 poster award in the CVCEPHOTO contest. It is the work of the Bilbao photographer Gonzalo Bartolomé Tierra 'Yhabril Moro', who has made "the dream" of winning this award "come true".

Film registrations period opened for the BBK Mendi Film Bilbao-Bizkaia 2023

RULES - FILM SUBMISSION

The deadline for film registrations for the 16th edition of the BBK Mendi Film Bilbao-Bizkaia festival is open from 31 March to 15 September.

The 2023 edition will be held between December 8 and 17. Interested producers, directors and filmmakers must present their works in the aforementioned period.

Edurne Pasaban WOP Mendi Film 2023 Award

The WOP-The Walk On Project Foundation and the Mendi Film Festival Association are awarding the WOP Mendi Film 2023 Foundation Award to Edurne Pasaban, mountaineer and businesswoman from Tolosa, Gipuzkoa. She is first woman to complete the 14 eight-thousanders, the highest mountains on the planet. The award ceremony is going to take place at the Opening Ceremony of the 16th edition of BBK Mendi Film Bilbao Bizkaia, on December the 8th 2023, at the Euskalduna Congress Centre in Bilbao.

BBK Mendi Film Bilbao Bizkaia recovers its pre-pandemic popularity with more than 9,000 people and 74% occupancy rate

Bilbao, 20 December 2022. The 15th edition of the BBK Mendi Film Bilbao Bizkaia held from the 9th to the 18th of December, has reached the summit  with an overall attendance of 9,005 people. The festival screened a total of 59 films from 14 countries. There were 16 world premieres and 22 spanish premieres. 16 prizes were awarded among 13 winning films, with a total prize money of 25,200 euros. In addition, this year the ceremony in which the Grand Prize of the International Alliance for Mountain Film has been awarded to the Australian filmmaker Michael Dillon, has been held in Bilbao.

A Grand Prize that gives visibility to the lights and shadows of the history of Quinn Brett

The film "An Accidental Life" has won the Grand Prize of BBK Mendi Film Bilbao Bizkaia. Directed by Henna Taylor, the film revolves around the life of Quinn Brett, a climber who on October 11, 2017 suffered a traumatic accident while climbing in El Capitan, Yosemite. Amazingly she survived to be able to tell the story, but at the same time she had to face the irreparable consequences of the accident, leaving her paraplegic. Both, Henna Taylor and Quinn Brett, have been in Bilbao these past days, presenting the film, and in addition to the verdict of the Jury, they have received the warmth and recognition of the spectators of the Mendi Film.

Michael Dillon and the importance of living the adventure

Michael Dillon received on December 16, 2022, in Bilbao, the Grand Prize 2022 of the International Alliance for Mountain Film. The Australian filmmaker was accompanied on stage by Piotr Turkot (Krakow Mountain Festival, Poland) and Jabier Baraiazarra (BBK Mendi Film Bilbao Bizkaia, and president of the alliance).
