Small, steep rivers that fill up with meltwater every spring make the Pyrenees a paradise for extreme kayaking. Of all the rivers in the mountain range, on its southern slopes, one stands out above all others: The Ara River, known for its crystalline waters, its long and spectacular ramps, is the jewel in the crown. Jan Larrue and Mikel Sarasola join forces to try to descend this river from its source. What they find up there surprises them greatly, but the descent has other, less pleasant surprises in store for them. Something is changing in the Pyrenees.
