After 20 years competing in mountain races, Xabier Zarranz (Barañain 1981), decides to leave the Euskal Selekzioa team and move away from elite competition. That same year, unexpectedly, he managed to win two of the most important state circuit ultra-races in Spain, The Gran Trail Aneto-Posets (105 km/6.760m+) and The Canfranc-Canfranc (100km/8.848m+). This fact will make him rethink his future throughout a journey among some of the 212 peaks over 3,000 meters of the Pyrenees, linking the Balaitus (3,144m) with the Pica d'Estats (3,143m).
