The International Alliance for Mountain Film is an international association focused on the promotion and preservation of mountain cinema. It was founded at a meeting held on February 4th and 5th 2000 in the Sala degli Stemmi of the Museo Nazionale della Montagna in Turin, in continuance to a previous meeting held in Trento in 1999, with a declaration of intent signed by the nine founding members: Autrans, Banff, Breuil-Cervinia, Graz, Les Diablerets, Lugano, Torelló, Trento and the Museomontagna of Turin.

This declaration of intent was made official in Autrans on December7th 2001 and registered before a notary public. Subsequently, it was established as a free association on July 24th, 2006, also registered before a Notary Public. Currently, the IAMF has 29 members: 27 mountain film festivals, a mountain museum, and a film library, representing 23 countries in Europe, Asia, North and South America, and Oceania.

To guarantee the spirit and motives that gave rise to the declaration of intent, the directors who signed up as founding members become “honorary members” at the end of their terms of office, with advisory and collaborative roles.

Currently, these positions are held by Aldo Audisio, Antonio Cembran, Mireille Chiocca, Bernadette McDonald, Valeriana Rosso and Pierre Simoni.

Throughout its history, the IAMF, which includes among its members the most prestigious operators in the sector, has managed to consolidate itself and become the main point of reference for those who produce, direct, promote and preserve mountain cinema.

Mendi Film has been a member of the IAMF since 2011, and Jabier Baraiazarra (director of Mendi Film) has been its president since 2018.
