On the occasion of the centenary of the Basque-Navarre Mountaineering Federation, this exhibition aims to make visible the participation of women in these 100 years of the federation. The pioneers Maritxu Urreta, Julene Etxenike and Loli López Goñi began this journey. Later, other generations took up the baton, including Pili Ganuza, Trini Cornellana, Amaia Aranzabal and Yolanda Martín. Miriam García Pascual was the benchmark of the 1980s and she was followed by Josune Bereziartu, Leire Agirre, Patricia Viscarret, Sonia Casas and Edurne Pasaban. The fourth wave is also in force today: Maialen Rojo, Uxue Loizu, Amaia Segurola, Malen Osa, Sara Alonso and many others are performing in the mountains in large numbers and at a high level.

The Tximist expedition to Everest in 1974 was an innovative milestone in Basque mountaineering. Financed entirely by the businessman Juan Celaya, it came very close to reaching the summit of Everest. It was the first step of the expedition that in May 1980 came to plant the Basque Flag, Ikurriña, on the highest peak in the world and marked the beginning of a long pilgrimage of Basque mountaineers to the majestic mountains of the Himalayas. On the fiftieth anniversary of that adventure, EMMOA is pleased to offer the exhibition on this expedition that opened up the world of the lofty mountains to our mountaineering.
