For hundreds of years the ice workers from Chimborazo, have endured the harsh conditions caused by this volcano, in the Ecuadorian Andes, in exchange for cut some of its ice and provide for their people. Today it is a profession on the verge of extinction if it were not for Baltazar Ushca. Despite his age, every day he walks for hours to the volcano’s glacier to extract huge blocks of ice that he then sells in the nearest town.
